To me Kenaz represents Home and Hearth, Transformation, Illumination, Inspiration, Passion and Heart Fire, Inner Hearth Fire, the Fire You Carry With You.
 
"With this piece I used two different locations, both sang the songs of home fires and the fires of illumination and inspiration, for me and for Duncan. The first location is Chalk ford near Scoriton and the second Becka Brook valley, just a wee walk down from Greator Rocks. Both these places and spaces are what I call heartlands and the chosen locations for Kenaz – Heart Fire
 
The figure in this painting is me on the moor at Greator Rocks and was based on a photo taken by an artist friend of mine Chris Down. Later on the same walk with Chris we went down to Becka Brook and sat beside the old clapper bridge, it was a bright spring day and the water was clear, the stones warmed by the sun, a perfect place to sit and contemplate, and let the spirit of the land fire my imagination. It is the same at Chalk Ford and every time I return to the little field by the ford I feel a warm sense of welcoming, often greeted by the small wild herd of ponies who come down off the high moor in the evenings as the sky flames from sunset to twilight. Whenever I visit either place I always walk away inspired.
 
For me Kenaz is the camp fire warming my feet, the heart fire in my hands and the fire of inspiration flaming in my mind. 
 
This is me at home in my heartlands soaking up the magick."
